Marrakech moves to intelligent transport: a major project to modernize the urban network

DISCOVER MOROCCO
the city of Marrakech is embarking on a profound transformation of its urban transport system, a vast modernization program is being implemented to renew the entire bus fleet and rethink the management and digitalization model of the service

Resulting from a national dynamic aimed at sustainably improving the quality of public transport, this project is based on a shared financing mechanism associating the State, the Marrakech-Safi Region and the “Marrakech Transport” group of communities, thus guaranteeing the sustainability of investment without transferring the burden directly to the user

This system combines the contributions of the Urban Transport Reform Support Fund and those of territorial partners to enable the progressive acquisition of modern buses, equipped with advanced technical standards meeting current environmental requirements, facilitating accessibility for people with reduced mobility and integrating digital systems disseminating relative information in real time to routes and stops

In parallel with the renewal of the fleet, a complete restructuring of the network is underway in order to harmonize the distribution of lines with the growing urban dynamic and real mobility needs. This reorganization aims to reduce waiting times, improve the fluidity of travel and optimize the daily management of operations thanks to digital control centers ensuring instant monitoring buses and better timetable regulation

Marrakech’s digital ambition is also reflected in the gradual introduction of electronic tickets, smart cards that can be recharged online and information systems displayed both inside buses and at stopping points, strengthening transparency, limiting operational dysfunctions and improving the overall efficiency of the service
