Marrakech, destination to absolutely visit in 2017 according to the New York Times

The New York Times publishes at the beginning of each year a list of places to visit in the world. Since 2015, Morocco has not appeared in the prestigious ranking of the internationally recognized newspaper. Marrakech, represents the kingdom by ranking 11th in the NYT ranking of destinations to visit in 2017, out of 52 cities.

The American newspaper encourages travel: “There are thousands of getaways to explore this year, here are some ideas to help you get started.” Marrakech, the tourist city par excellence, raises the kingdom to the rank of dream destination for getting away from it all. The ocher city is described by the newspaper through the museum of the world fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent, who established his private residence there. His works and his art are in the spotlight in several places in the city. The NYT states:

“A new museum dedicated to the work of Yves Saint Laurent will open this fall in Marrakech, listing hundreds of sketches, sewn clothes and accessories. »

A 4,000 square meter space adjacent to the Majorelle garden, which will celebrate its 60th anniversary as a garden open to the public. The fashion designer’s private residence « Villa Oasis » is a popular tourist attraction, and the museum dedicated to Berber culture attracts just as many tourists.

In 2017, the New York Times chose to put Canada, a huge neighboring country and the second largest country in the world, at the top of the Top 3. In second place, the Atacama Desert of Chile, « the highest desert in the world », and finally a little further, in third place the city of Agra in India.

Morocco is a regular in the ranking, since in 2012, the prestigious newspaper chose Dakhla in 26th place. The following year, Casablanca represented the kingdom. In 2015, the capital Rabat was 31st in the world ranking.
