Marrakech is transforming: a strategic project at the northern entrance to welcome the world
**♦ Mohamed Khartouf**
The northern entrance to Marrakech, near the Tensift bridge, is currently undergoing a major transformation as part of a vast widening and redevelopment project intended to strengthen infrastructure in anticipation of international sporting events.
The work is progressing at a sustained pace, with leveling and raising operations on the ground along the road bordering the Belâakid area, while ensuring the preservation of the surrounding landscape, in particular the dense palm grove which characterizes the region.
This project includes the widening of the road as well as the development of a secure pedestrian crossing, lined with natural grass resistant to climatic conditions, bringing both an aesthetic and ecological touch to the whole.
Particular attention was paid to improving public lighting, with the installation of modern poles meeting safety and elegance standards, in addition to the reorganization of the Belâakid roundabout to streamline traffic and strengthen security.
The intervention is not limited to the entrance to the city, but is part of an integrated urban development vision that extends to the Casablanca road and to the commune of El Jbilet, reflecting a stated desire to unify the urban landscape and strengthen the connection between Marrakech and its northern outskirts.
The commune of Oued Sidi Ibrahim, located between Marrakech and El Jbilet, is the first beneficiary of this transformation, which should improve transport services and open up new perspectives for regional development, while facilitating the organization of events of national and international scope.
This project demonstrates the authorities’ determination to drive qualitative change in line with the city’s modernization and development ambitions.
