The hotel sector adopts a roadmap
More than 40% of the current energy consumption of hotel establishments could be saved, provided energy efficiency measures are adopted. This is what emerges from the first Conference on energy performance in the hotel sector organized earlier this week in Marrakech by the AOB Group and the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development and which saw the participation of 200 hoteliers and professionals from the energy ecosystem. Already, the Moroccan sustainable energy financing line intended for the private sector, endowed with 800 million dirhams, has identified the two main areas of energy consumption in hotel establishments: air conditioning and heating (34%) and lighting (more than 21%).
The director general of the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE), Saïd Mouline, indicated that a roadmap is being produced in order to develop the legal framework for energy efficiency in tourist establishments. The objective is to reduce energy bills, rationalize energy consumption and raise awareness among hoteliers of sustainable solutions capable of improving energy efficiency. At the national level, the energy efficiency strategy targets a 25% reduction in electricity consumption by 2030.
