The president of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), Amina Bouayach, underlined, Tuesday in Rabat, the need to strengthen international advocacy in order to guarantee universal protection of human rights in the era of artificial intelligence and digital spaces

Speaking during a meeting devoted to “Human Rights and artificial intelligence”, organized as part of the 7th Congress of the Network of National Human Rights Institutions in the French-speaking area, Ms. Bouayach insisted on the importance of equitable and fair access to advanced technologies, particularly for emerging countries and those in the South

She indicated that digital technologies and artificial intelligence systems can contribute significantly to the effectiveness of fundamental rights, in particular the right to health and the right to education, while noting that these technologies remain largely inaccessible in many emerging and African countries

Furthermore, Ms. Bouayach, also president of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, warned against the domination of large technology companies, whose choices related to the design, training or operation of AI systems can sometimes favor private interests to the detriment of human rights and threaten the very foundations of their protection

She stressed that the negative impacts of artificial intelligence systems transcend national borders and constitute global challenges, thus calling for universal protection of rights and freedoms. In this context, Ms. Bouayach recalled the central role of national human rights institutions, united within regional networks and a global alliance bringing together institutions from more than 120 countries, in international advocacy for the defense of human dignity and universal rights in the face of the challenges posed by artificial intelligence. The congress, which is held over two days, aims to develop a road map operational intended to strengthen the capacities of national institutions in the French-speaking area to deal with digital transformations, in particular through the establishment of ethical and legal frameworks guaranteeing respect for human rights in digital public policies. national institutions facing emerging challenges.
