
In nine months, Morocco received 9.5 million tourists
Four source markets experienced positive developments. First, Italy and the United States, each with an increase of +15%, followed by Germany and France, with 11% and 8% respectively.
At the same time, according to data communicated by tourist accommodation professionals, the volume of nights in classified establishments increased by +8% in September 2018, compared to that of 2017.
By geographical area classification, the destinations of Fez and Oujda-Saïdia recorded the strongest increases in terms of overnight stays with respectively +31% and +10%. The performance of the Tangier-Tétouen-Al Hoceima region stagnated in September 2018.
During the first nine months of 2018, the volume of arrivals at border crossings reached 9.5 million tourists, an increase of +8% compared to the same period in 2017 with +14% for TES and +2% for MRE.
The main source markets experienced an increase in arrivals during this period, in particular, Italy and Germany with +14% and +10%, followed by France and Holland with +7% and +5%.
At the end of September 2018, total nights spent in classified tourist accommodation establishments recorded an increase of +9% compared to the same period of 2017.
The two tourist centers Marrakech and Agadir alone generated 60% of total overnight stays at the end of September 2018. These two destinations recorded an increase of +10% and +9% respectively.
Other destinations also showed good performances, in particular, Fez, Rabat and Tangier with increases of +21%, +11% and +10% respectively.
