Morocco: a budget of 534 million DH to revive tourism and support air transport
Heavily impacted this year by Covid-19 and its corollaries, tourism and air transport are receiving a breath of fresh air from the government. For the year 2021, the supervisory ministry benefits from more than 534 million DH to revive tourist activities at half mast since last March and support air transport which is facing an unprecedented crisis.
In detail, this budget allocated 142.6 million DH for the central administration in 2021, a decline of 52% compared to 2020, 16.9 million DH for training establishments. Subsidies are also planned for the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) and the Moroccan Society of Tourism Engineering (SMIT), respectively in the order of 300 million DH and 134.7 million DH, specifies the supervisory minister.
For Minister Nadia Fettah, the ONMT budget did not see any reduction in order to further promote national tourism and recover market shares lost following the health crisis due to the coronavirus.
With regard to crafts and the social economy, the minister explains that a budget (excluding personnel expenses) of nearly 321.5 million DH is allocated for this sub-sector in 2021. It is distributed between operations (145.86 million DH) and investment (175.63 million DH), she recalled.
While the central administration inherits 220.48 million DH, the budgets of the cooperation development office (BDECo), the Maison de l’Artisan, the Chambers of Crafts and the autonomously managed state services (vocational training establishments) stand respectively at 33 million DH, 40 million DH, 26.3 million DH and 1.7 million DH and 1.71 MDH, she added.
