DISCOVER MOROCCO
Morocco is taking firm steps towards the expansion of its rapid transport system with the construction of a new tunnel dedicated to the High Speed Train (TGV) in the heart of the capital, Rabat, This project ambitious is part of the future line linking Kenitra to Marrakech, Under one of the busiest urban axes, work is progressing on a complex engineering site which should reshape rail traffic at the national level and consolidate the Kingdom’s position as an emerging power in the field of modern infrastructure on the African continent
The tunnel extends over a distance of 2,750 meters between Oued Bouregreg and Rabat-Agdal station, It was designed with a single tube comprising two lanes, using the NATM technique (New Austrian Method of Tunnel Construction), recognized for its ability to adapt to the geological particularities of dense urban areas, The project also includes a 250 meter long covered trench, two road bridges, as well as a technical well facilitating operations future operation and maintenance, With the accelerated progress of the works, this tunnel stands out as a fundamental lever for the success of the plan to extend the TGV network to the South, following the success of the line linking Tangier to Kenitra,
Once completed, this achievement will increase the fluidity of rail traffic on the axis Kenitra–Casablanca–Marrakech, to reduce pressure on the surface network and to strengthen safety and reliability standards, This project embodies Morocco’s long-term strategic vision, focused on the development of sustainable transport, the improvement of economic connectivity between cities, and the establishment of development models based on innovation and quality of services
Through this project, Morocco continues to consolidate its position as one of the most advanced countries in the region in the modernization and elevation of rail transport to global levels of competitiveness.
