
Morocco: mobilization in Marrakech to reach 3.8 million tourists by 2018
All public and private actors are mobilized to achieve the objective of 3.8 million tourist arrivals by 2018, according to a press release from the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Marrakech.
During a meeting of the CRT, chaired by the wali of the region, Abdeslam Bikrat, and intended for the presentation of the Report on tourism activities during the 1st quarter of 2014 as well as the discussion of the 2014-2017 four-year action plan, local and regional actors underlined the need to confirm the tourism leadership of Marrakech and to further strengthen its positioning among the world’s leading tourist destinations.
To do this, the CRT of Marrakech adopted a consultation approach with all tourism operators, which resulted in the development of an Action Plan which is structured around several projects. This is a plan to promote the Marrakech destination, intended for two priority markets, namely the German market and the English market.
Alongside promotional efforts, the project to improve the product and the tourist environment continues to make significant progress, underlines the same press release.
During this meeting, the local authorities and elected officials of Marrakech committed to major actions in this direction and which meet the expectations of professionals in the sector.
For the president of the Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz Regional Council, Ahmed Touizi and the mayor of Marrakech, Fatima-Zahra Mansouri, commitment to tourism professionals and support for the sector constitute strategic choices which benefit from the unfailing support of local authorities.
Furthermore, the participants in this meeting, including the director general of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), Abderrafie Zouiten, the president of the Mechouar-Kasbah urban commune, Mohamed Fouad Houri, the president of the Marrakech CRT, Hamid Bentahar and operators in the tourism sector, welcomed the recent ranking of Marrakech by “TripAdviser” as the 6th tourist destination in the world.
