This is a historic first in Morocco and a big step for the environment! From now on, anyone committing an environmental offense will be punished. A measure that risks significantly improving our living environment.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) announced the creation of a central service and regional environmental brigades, responsible for monitoring environmental offenses, carrying out the necessary investigations on this subject and to present the perpetrators before the competent judicial authorities.
The creation of this body is part of « the implementation of the new provisions contained in the constitution and which plan to mobilize all means to guarantee citizens a healthy living environment and the right to sustainable development », specifies a press release from the DGSN.
Regional environmental brigades will be installed in the cities of Rabat, Casablanca and Mohammedia, as a first step, before being generalized throughout the territory.
The members of these brigades will wear official clothing bearing the environmental police badge and will have at their disposal cars, bearing the environmental police logo and equipped with all the scientific means necessary to carry out their mission.
The members of these brigades will undergo specialized training at the Royal Police Institute for a period of two weeks from September 30, specifies the same source, noting that said training will cover theoretical and practical aspects of environmental protection and the preservation of natural resources.
This training will enable the environmental police to carry out their mission which consists of “consecrating the culture of environmental preservation through the prevention of environmental offenses and the repression of fraudsters”.
