Morocco: the tourism sector is making a comeback
With the Operation Marhaba 2022 and the resumption of tourist activities, the sector is returning to a recovery rate before the health crisis, according to the monthly report from the Foreign Exchange Office published on Monday October 3.
For a sector which barely raked in 20 billion in revenue, the last eight months have been very flourishing for national tourism with 52.2 billion dirhams, an increase of 112.1%. In its activity report, the Foreign Exchange Office indicates that “tourist revenues in August approached the level they had at the same period in 2019, when they reached 52.68 billion dirhams”.

These figures represent a real breath of fresh air for professionals in the sector who thought they would no longer recover from the effects of the crisis. The Minister of Tourism, Crafts and Social Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, revealed that 3.2 million tourists, including 2 million Moroccans residing abroad (MRE), spent the summer vacation in Morocco. Which caused the figures for tourist arrivals to explode.
