Presentation of the 2016 ONMT Morocco Trophies in Madrid

A ceremony to award the 2016 Morocco Trophies of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), awarded to Spanish tourism professionals and opinion makers who have contributed to the promotion of the Morocco destination, was organized Thursday evening in Madrid on the sidelines of the 37th edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2017).

The award ceremony for these trophies took place in the presence of several Spanish and Moroccan tourism officials and professionals and personalities.

In the category of best television program, the prize was awarded to the program “Destinos de Pelicula” from Spanish national television (TVE), filmed in three Moroccan cities: Tangier, Marrakech and Ouarzazate.

Speaking on this occasion, the presenter of the show, journalist Maxim Huerta, welcomed this award which recognizes the “hard work” accomplished by the show’s team during filming in Morocco.

The program dedicated to Morocco, he said, is the first of “Destinos de Pelicula” which traveled to more than one city in a country, noting that the Kingdom deserves the effort that was made by the film team.

In the category of best blog promoting the destination Morocco, the trophy was awarded to the Spanish blog “Guias-Viajar”. The creator of this blog, José Luis Sarralde, stressed that the Kingdom is a country very appreciated by Spanish tourists, saying he is delighted to see that the content he publishes on the Morocco destination finds positive echoes in Spain and elsewhere.

As for the category of best magazine report on the destination Morocco, the trophy was awarded to the specialized magazine “Conde Nast Tarveler”.

In the Tour Operators category, the prize was awarded to the Spanish TO Mundi-Morocco. “As a tourism professional, selling the Morocco destination is a pleasure. Receiving an award for this is an additional source of pride,” said the CEO of Mundi-Maroc, Cristobal Jarillo, during this ceremony.

The trophy for the best radio program was given to the program “Piérdete y disfruta” from the “Gestiona Radio” group.

The host of the show, Pilar Carrizosa, stressed that Morocco is a fascinating country which makes it easier to transmit, through radio waves, the magic of its contrasts, the richness of its culture and the warm welcome of its people.

The director of the ONMT delegation in Spain, Mohamed Sofi, indicated that this ceremony is part of Morocco’s participation in the 37th edition of the Fitur Salon.

These trophies, he said, are intended to encourage Spanish tourism professionals and opinion leaders to work more to promote the Morocco destination to tourists from the Iberian country.

The diversity and richness of the Moroccan tourist offer is highlighted at the 37th edition of the Madrid International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2017) which is being held from January 18 to 22 at the Spanish capital’s exhibition center (Ifema) with the participation of exhibitors, professionals and experts from around the world.

The Moroccan stand, with an area of 312 m2 and ideally positioned at the entrance to the pavilion dedicated to Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, offers a broad panorama of Morocco’s tourist assets, in particular its cultural and natural wealth and the quality of its reception infrastructure.

All of the Kingdom’s tourist regions are represented in this show, through the Regional Tourism Councils as well as 24 co-exhibitors, including travel agencies and hotel chains, not forgetting the participation of Royal Air Maroc.

The last edition of Fitur recorded a record attendance with a total of 231,872 visitors, including 124,659 professionals (2 pc more than in 2015), and 9,605 companies from 165 countries.
