Burundi reaffirms its support for the territorial integrity of Morocco
This position was expressed by the Burundian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Albert Shingiro, in a joint press release signed on the occasion of the holding in Rabat of the first session of the Morocco-Burundi Joint Cooperation Commission, co-chaired with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita. In this joint press release, the head of Burundian diplomacy welcomed the international dynamic driven, for years, by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in favor of the Moroccan character of the Sahara and in support of the Moroccan autonomy initiative.
He also reiterated the constant position of the Republic of Burundi in favor of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Morocco over its entire territory, including the Sahara region, reaffirming his country’s support for the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom, as the only credible and realistic solution for the resolution of this regional dispute. Mr. Shingiro also praised the efforts of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for achieving a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the dispute over the Sahara.
