Agadir: Tourism professionals work on an “air base”
Infomédiaie Maroc – At a time when the destination Agadir is starting 2017 on a rather positive note, with a significant increase in tourist arrivals and overnight stays, professionals consider it no less urgent to strengthen air transport and promotion to give more impetus to this key sector of the regional economy in an international environment which remains difficult.
« The establishment of an air base in Agadir and the granting of a substantial budget for promotion and marketing constitute decisive actions in the tourism revival of Agadir and the Souss Massa region », notes the president of the Regional Council of tourism (CRT) of Agadir, Guy Mrach.
Based on this reality, an action plan was developed for the current year with priorities: promotion, aerial, product diversification and animation.
Drawing the broad outlines of this strategy, during the CRT board of directors meeting recently, Macca was keen to point out that air transport represents a key element in the development of tourist flows.
In collaboration with the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), steps have been taken with various national and foreign airlines, regular and Low Cost, in order to set up an air base in Agadir capable of meeting the needs of different markets and to ensure new frequencies.
This base will also make it possible to develop domestic frequencies between Agadir and Casablanca.
Note that, as part of the promotion plan for the 1st national seaside resort, a memorandum of understanding will soon be signed with the ONMT. In addition to the international aspect, it covers the national tourism aspect which represents an equally important part of Agadir’s clientele.
To relaunch previously traditional European markets but are now losing momentum, canvassing and prospecting operations have recently been undertaken with Swedish, Finnish and British tour operators.
« This work aims to stabilize attendance at our station but also to relaunch markets historically acquired at our destination during the winter period », explained Macca to the members of the CRT board of directors chaired by the Wali of the region, Zineb El Adaoui with the participation of the presidents of the Regional Council and the urban municipality, as well as professionals from the tourism sector.
In terms of product diversification, emphasis was placed on the integration of the provinces and prefectures of Souss-Massa in order to enrich the seaside product of Agadir with the cultural and natural tourist potential of the entire region. region.
The diversification strategy also consists of highlighting new niches such as Mice (Meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions), golf, surfing, well-being, trekking, football, discovery trips and adventures.
A richer and more diversified product is the way to target a wider clientele and stand out from competing resorts in the Mediterranean, professionals are assured.
As part of the action plan for the current year, animation is not left out. In addition to the program implemented annually in consultation with the regional council and the urban commune, the commitment was made to further enrich it in order to improve the image of Agadir, especially since entertainment has often constituted a handicap for the destination.
With a good start to the season, professionals remain optimistic about the ability of the 1st national seaside resort to stay the course and develop, especially since the tourism sector is listed as a priority in the development plans of both the Regional Council and the municipality urban.
