ONMT joins forces with Wakanow to boost tourism in Morocco
The Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) is heading towards the African market and forging a strategic partnership with Wakanow, one of the leading TOs in Africa. Objective: strengthen the attractiveness of the Morocco destination on African markets, particularly those in West Africa, and increase flows from these promising source markets. A partnership was signed on Thursday February 15 in Rabat, between Adel El Fakir, general director of the ONMT and Adedeji Adebayo, CEO of the Nigerian TO Wakanow. Through this agreement, which covers a period of five years, the Pan-African TO undertakes to considerably increase its reservations to Morocco. For the current year, a partnership contract was concluded between the two parties, setting a target of 5,000 tourists for the 2024 summer season from the Nigerian market. This partnership is all the more strategic as in 2025, Morocco will host the African Cup of Nations. A major sporting event for the African continent which will attract a significant flow of tourists both from Africa and from the African diaspora in Europe. By 2029, Wakanow is committed to making nearly 66,000 reservations for the benefit of the Morocco destination. To achieve this, the ONMT and Wakanow will deploy an aggressive marketing campaign in the region. The communication system will target all media such as display, digital, social networks, influencer marketing, in addition to offline actions thanks in particular to wide coverage in the main African media. TO Wakanow has a network of 47 travel agencies across Africa, totaling 237 travel agents, in addition to a call center employing 160 operators. Leader in the West African region, Wakanow is today among the most robust online travel agencies on the African continent, particularly in Nigeria. Air services between Morocco and Nigeria support the ONMT and Wakanow in achieving their objectives. Nigeria has, in fact, good regional coverage thanks to the multiple airline routes of its airlines. For its part, Royal Air Maroc already covers Nigeria thanks to a direct Casablanca-Lagos route, in addition to its large network to and from the main African cities and capitals.
