Russia 2018: What budget to support the Atlas Lions?

Are you an Atlas Lions fan? Are you determined to go to Russia? Here is a first estimate of the travel budget: a range from 50,000 to 60,000 DH.

The main expense items are as follows: match tickets, plane tickets, stay (in a hotel or apartment), catering, unforeseen events, current expenses, discovery tourism.

Our simulation uses as a hypothesis the case of a supporter who decided to attend the three group matches and return after the last match, whether the Atlas Lions qualify for the eighth or not.

Morocco’s three matches will be played on June 15, 20 and 25, 2017.

A supporter can therefore opt to depart from Casablanca on June 13 at the latest, to resume return flights on June 27.

>His programwill then be as follows:

-June 13: Casablanca-Saint Petersburg (no direct flight).

-From June 13 to 15 inclusive: stay in Saint Petersburg.

-June 15: Morocco-Iran match, on site.

-June 16: St. Petersburg-Moscow flight.

-From June 16 to 22 inclusive: stay in Moscow.

-June 20: Morocco-Portugal match in the magnificent official World Cup stadium in Moscow.

-June 23: Moscow-Kaliningrad flight.

-From June 23 to 25 inclusive: stay in Kaliningrad.

-Monday June 25: Morocco-Spain match in Kaliningrad.

-June 26: Kaliningrad-Moscow flight.

-June 27: Moscow-Casablanca flight.

>Flights:

The multiplicity of combinations does not make your task easier but opens up possibilities for competitive prices, via the Scandinavian countries (notably SAS in Sweden or Finnair in Finland) or Germany (Frankfurt).

For our part, we opted for the simplest: a Casablanca-Moscow round trip at approximately, today’s value, 12,000 DH (in economy class) or 15,000 to 16,000 DH (in business). If you were to make the purchase on Sunday December 3, 2017, there were very few places available for the entire period from June 13. But we can assume that RAM will implement additional capacities by then. The flight lasts approximately 6 hours.

Arriving in Moscow, you take a flight from the Ural or Aeroflot companies for around 1,500 DH round trip. The duration of the flight is 1 hour 30 minutes.

On June 16, return to Moscow with the same ticket.

On June 23, return flight Moscow Kaliningrad: The companies Ural, Utair or Red Wings will offer you flights at around 1,800 DH. The duration of the flight is 1 hour 55 minutes.

June 27, return to Morocco by RAM.

Average ticketing budget: 16,000 to 19,000 hours.

>Accommodation:

Your requirements are 14 nights: 3 in Saint Petersburg, 8 in Moscow (7 + 1), 3 in Kalingrad.

You have two main solutions: hotels or Airbnb. When it comes to hotels, the pressure is enormous, most decent hotels are either fully booked or have crazy prices for the period that interests us. The best solution seems to be Airbnb.

For example, in Saint Petersburg: in the city of the tsars, the price range is very wide. This Sunday, December 3, on the booking.com platform, most decent or luxury hotels were already full, or taken by storm and there were only one or two rooms available in the best case.

Among the availability, unclassified establishments, with uninviting photos, looking more like dormitories than hotels.

There was also availability in youth hostels.

The hotel price range goes from 100 DH per night to 10,000 DH and more.

On Airbnb, there was still quite a bit of availability: from a bed in a room at 9 euros per night, to a room in an accommodation and even an entire accommodation offered in ranges from 70 to 120 euros per night.

In short, housing in Saint Petersburg will be problematic.

Still on Airbnb, the same price range is found in Moscow for this period, with quite a bit of availability. Prices are slightly lower in Kaliningrad for the period relevant to us.

Accommodation budget: 15,000 to 30,000 DH, unless you opt and book immediately for the least expensive solutions such as simple rooms in Airbnb or youth hostels. We do not recommend unclassified hotel establishments.

>Stay, catering:

It depends on everyone’s means and wishes. The minimum required, according to the research we have carried out, is 1,000 DH per day, including travel. Below this budget, you risk struggling. It is therefore necessary to count 15,000 DH at least. 18,000 DH if we add 20% for unforeseen events, which seems to be the minimum. Double if we consider tourist discoveries of cities such as Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

>Ticketing.

Ticket prices are up significantly compared to the previous World Cup.

For Morocco’s three (first) matches, prices are between $105 and $210 per match, depending on the category chosen. A final ticket is sold for 1,100 dollars.

From this Tuesday, December 5 until January 31, 2018 (12:00 Moscow time), you can request tickets on the FIFA website. All ticket information is available in one place.

Note that an identity card specially requested from supporters is required, for security reasons. It’s called a Fan ID.

“Fans are encouraged to request this free document as soon as possible after receiving their ticket confirmation email,” FIFA announced.

“FAN ID and a valid ticket will be required to enter stadiums at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Having a FAN ID gives fans additional benefits and services provided by the host country, such as visa-free entry into the Russian Federation, some free travel between host cities and free use of public transport on match days.
