
The almond tree celebrating in Tafraout: Several projects launched to develop the sector
One of the flagship projects named was dedicated to planting almond trees on 600 ha with 72.43 million dirhams in the commune of Ait Ouafaa.
Annual meeting, the Tafraout almond festival stands as a flagship event in the Souss-Massa region to focus on achievements but also on future plans for the development of this sector and the agricultural sector. During this edition, several projects were launched by the Minister of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries, Aziz Akhannouch. One of the flagship projects named was dedicated to the planting of almond trees on 600 ha with 72.43 million dirhams in the commune of Ait Ouafaa. This edition was also marked by the inauguration of the road linking douar Aguerd Oudad and Ait Oussin with a budget of 7.93 million dirhams. The second tranche of projects to upgrade the Tafraout center was also launched (budget of 7.93 million dirhams).
The local village which will be set up in this context in the city center of Tafraout is intended to be a platform for promotion and development and a commercial crossroads for agricultural and craft cooperatives for their labeled productions, including the Tafraout almond tree certified IGP (Protected Geographical Indication). It should be noted that the national surface area (2016 figures) is 159,000 ha. Remember that national production is of the order of 101,000 t. The two regions of Taza-Al Hoceima and Souss-Massa are the two producing regions of this local product.
Focus: Projects in the province of Tiznit
Several projects are underway or have been completed in the province of Tiznit to enable the development of different sectors in the agricultural sector. Let us note in this sense the carob tree extension project as part of the Green Morocco Plan Pillar II.
The project is dedicated to the extension of plantations over 1,200 ha and to hydro-agricultural development in order to increase the income of producers and the valorization of production. The number of beneficiaries is around 500 farmers.
The budget envelope for the project is 45 million dirhams. The completion deadlines extend from 2014 to 2018. The current state of progress is 45%.
The development of olive plantations is also on the agenda. The said project is dedicated to the extension of plantations over 1,800 ha with the construction of two crushing units.
The cost of the project is around 145 million dirhams. A program to develop routes and regulate transhumance is also initiated at the level of the same province.
This project includes the planting of forage shrubs over 2,000 ha, the development and creation of water points with the construction of shelters, the development of transhumant rest areas and rural tracks over 13 km as well as the demarcation and protection by mechanical fencing. The cost of the project is 25 million dirhams. Note that the development and equipment phase of the “Ahl Lmmadar” courses has been completed.
