Morocco among the best destinations in 2024, according to Lonely Planet

Morocco continues to have the wind in its sails in the world tourism rankings. The Kingdom even comes in 5th place among the 50 essential destinations to visit in 2024. Lonely Planet, one of the world references in the field of tourist guides, has established a list of the 50 best destinations on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the portal. Morocco is comfortably in the top 5 after Mongolia, India, Saint Lucia and Mexico. “There’s nothing better than traveling the Sahara Desert on camelback, bargain hunting in a Marrakech souk, and exploring the enchanting blue city of Chefchaouen,” Lonely Planet experts write about the kingdom. They explain in the same vein that “this North African country appears on our list in 2024 thanks to the enthusiasm generated by its historic performance during the World Cup, its rise on the world surfing scale and the rebirth of its Mawazine music festival”. Returning to the painful experience of the earthquake, Lonely Planet wants to be reassuring and recommends that tourists help Morocco by going there. “The earthquake may have made you doubt the wisdom of traveling to this country, but locals say bringing travelers to Morocco is the best way to support reconstruction, making 2024 a good time to visit,” he recommends. Lonely Planet, which belonged to the BBC until 2013, also draws up a list of the four essential but nevertheless unforgettable tourist activities to do in Morocco. The authors of the ranking advise tourists to “Climb the highest mountain in North Africa, Toubkal, in the High Atlas and reach the summit of 4167 m altitude and cross the dunes on camel in the Merzouga desert and sleep under the stars”. “Buy until you drop for clothes, crafts and spices in the labyrinthine souks of Marrakech, Fez or Tetouan, and stroll the blue alleys of the medina of Chefchaouen to discover a typically Moroccan streetscape in the colors of the sky,” argues Lonely Planet.
