OECD: Morocco’s participation in the Ministerial Meeting on Science and Technology Policies
The work of the Ministerial Meeting on science and technology policies of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) began on Tuesday at the headquarters of the International Organization in Paris, with the participation of Morocco. The Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Abdellatif Miraoui, leads the Moroccan delegation to this meeting, under the theme “Shared challenges, transformative actions”. This meeting, chaired by France, and co-chaired by Austria, Colombia, Korea, Norway, Spain and Switzerland, aims to outline transformative actions in science, technology and innovation, to accelerate transitions towards greater sustainability, integrate common values in the governance of science and emerging technologies, and strengthen the role of international cooperation in order to meet global challenges. “This meeting aims to develop a concerted and pragmatic agenda in science, technology and innovation,” said the French Minister of Higher Education and Research, Sylvie Retailleau, in a welcome message. Participants in this meeting will work to develop an action-oriented declaration, encouraging the main players to adopt an ambitious research and innovation policy in the face of environmental challenges and which “leads us to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly concerning the Oceans,” she added. Faced with various global challenges, primarily climate change, safeguarding biodiversity or sustainable resource management, this event, which brings together ministers and high-level representatives from OECD and non-member countries, as well as international organizations, allows different international delegations to bring together their transformative strategies in the scientific, technological and innovation fields. This two-day event is also an opportunity to implement “a program of transformative actions in STI” (Science, Technology, Innovation), focused on sustainable transitions.
